Oct 15/2026 Lindsay Buziak Murder – 19 years unsolved- no arrests, no one charged. Someone out there has the answers.

From the very start of this investigation Sgt. Chris Horsley has done his utmost to promote his theory about Lindsay Buziak’s murder to anyone who will listen.
Is this Detective Sgt. Horsley’s personal theory or is it the theory of the Saanich Police Department? There appears to be varying opinions on this topic. Chris Horsley was known to be a media hound who lived for the attention & loved the limelight. Unfortunately that he is no longer on the case, “the star of the show”, his popularity has waned. Since his retirement from the Saanich Police Department” the media has little interest in what he has to say.
During his tenure, every time this cop (media spokesperson) spoke to the press, he voiced his opinion as to who was responsible for Lindsay’s murder, and he’s continued to push his Calgary Drug Bust/cartel theory on anyone who is prepared to listen. What’s most interesting, is that here we are 19 years later, and no one has ever been arrested/prosecuted for this crime.
Sgt Chris Horsley was the lead investigator appointed to the case by Inspector Rob McColl back in 2008, and he maintained his position as the lead investigator until his retirement in 2022. Throughout the years Horsley has defended and protected the Zailo family everwhich way he can. So, either he firmly believes that the Zailos have been falsely identified as possible suspects by the public, or he is protecting them for some unknown reason. It’s just so bizarre that so much of the circumstantial evidence in this case points to the Zailo’s involvement, yet this lead detective defends their every statement, their every move without an explanation as to why he believes in their innocence. Maybe Horsley is right, then again, maybe he is wrong.
JUST A FEW STATEMENTS MADE BY SGT CHRIS HORSLEY OVER THE YEARS
CRIME WATCH DAILY, CHEK NEWS, CAPITAL DAILY, SAANICH NEWS,
Lindsay was not worried about the showing that evening.
The thing that really set the alarm bells off is that the front door of the home was locked & in the real estate business, as Mr. Zailo is a realtor, he knows that this is something that is simply not done and once he attempted entry & the door was locked that was the cause for the 911 call.
***Take a survey and you will find that 50% of realtors would lock the door and the other 50% would make sure it was not locked”.
Mr. Zailo was going to the DeSousa house because he had real estate documents that Lindsay needed to sign.
***There were no real estate documents for Lindsay to sign that night.
She was definitely targeted. This was definitely the largest cocaine seizure in the history of the province.
*** And there’s Horsley again, promoting the Calgary Drug Bust.
She told Jason they’re here, but at no time did she say anything that would be cause for a warning. I’m scared, these people creep me out.
***Lindsay told several people that she was afraid to go to the DeSousa house alone. She told people in the office Jason was going to be with her. Jason tells the 911 operator that Lindsay was afraid to go alone, and he was following her. Do you hear that Horsley, she was afraid to go alone!
Jason tells police he drives up to the house 4 minutes later at 5:45 and then he tells them he may have actually seen the murderers. A tall Caucasian man and a blonde woman wearing a colorful dress like this one.
***Wait a moment! When did the story change because Jason said on Dateline that he saw shadows through the frosted glass in the front door?
Chris Horsley says
His assumption is these are the clients and the showing is just starting as the door closes. He then parks outside because he is waiting for the showing to end.
***Jason talked to Lindsay on the phone at 5:30. She said, “I have to go, the Mexicans are here.” So Jason knew the viewing had started at 5:30 pm.
Mr. Zailo & his friend were under intense scrutiny. However, Mr. Zailo was co-operative with police. He also partook in a polygraph exam & passed.
***Cooperative with police? No he wasn’t.
Horsley says:
Based on forensic evidence, timeline, communications, witness testimony, video surveillance we know he is not the killer. Was he perhaps somehow involved in the planning? Well, he successfully passed a polygraph & he successfully took part in all these interviews with us, so at this point in time he is not considered a suspect.
In January before her murder the largest drug bust in Alberta history occurred & we’re talking millions upon millions value in cocaine. The people who lost the drugs know that someone spoke to the police. They needed to solve a problem and she was the solution.
***Once again, Horsley is promoting his theory that Lindsay was murdered by the cartel. No evidence ever shown to the public and no arrests ever made.
We don’t know the nature of the call, we don’t know why she called him, we don’t know why she was on his Facebook.
*** Horsley, you’ve never once produced evidence that she made a call to this person. 19 years sir, please step forward with your evidence
What we can say is that people lost a lot of money & the people that lost the drugs know that someone spoke to the police. A witch hunt occurred where people were being questioned, people were being pulled out of their beds in the middle of the night & asked, “who have you spoken to.” Because they know that someone spoke to the police
***Once again, Horsley pushes his theory but offers not a shred of evidence.
WHY IS IT THE SAANICH POLICE HAVE BEEN PROTECTING JASON ZAILO ALL THESE YEARS?
Is it because he is innocent or is there another reason we have never been told about? What about all the circumstantial evidence that surrounds Jason and his family?
His friendship & business association with Ziggy Matheson. Ziggy connected to the HA
His connection to Chris Schwartz, the drug dealer he went to see the day he was released from the police station. Chris connected to the HA
His story about the reason he was going to the DeSousa house which was false.
His behavior after the murder, hitting on Lindsay’s friends less than a week later. Going straight to his scheduled hockey game right after Lindsay’s funeral ended.
The questions are endless, so I’ll leave it at that, except to ask why the Saanich Police Departments believes none of these things matters, and why Sgt. Chris Horsley has bent over backwards to cover for this family all these years?
If the Zailo family is innocent, then do them a favor and arrest the people who conspired to murder Lindsay Buziak. END THIS NIGHTMARE FOR LINDSAY’S FAMILY ONCE AND FOR ALL.
Inspector Rob McColl & Sgt Chris Horsley were the two police officers who appeared on the Dateline show October 2010. Let’s not forget the statement that Inspector Rob McColl made on Dateline.
“It’s possible that one of those two people who were at the home is the mastermind behind this and perhaps the money. Equally possible or more likely, there is a 3rd, 4th or 5th person involved. Motive, possible considerable wrong done to the financier.
Seemingly, Horsley & McColl were on the show to promote the Calgary Drug Bust theory, so we certainly know who he was suggesting entered the DeSousa home that fateful night. They made their theory known that day but had nothing to back up their statements.
Then we have the Dateline NBC Dreamhouse Mystery experts who clearly disagreed with the statements given by Inspector Rob McColl & Sgt Chris Horsley. The experts emphatically stated they did not believe Lindsay’s murder had anything to do with drugs, which in many ways discredited the statement made by Inspector Rob McColl.
LA Prosecutor Alan Jackson, Homicide Investigator Dwayne Stanton, and Crime Investigator Yolanda McCleary all agreed that Lindsay was targeted in a scheme well thought out and artfully designed. The experts believed that whoever planned Lindsay’s murder was someone she knew, someone who was very close to her, someone in the same business, and possibly in the same office.
What’s most interesting is that February 2/2011 in the Victoria News, Inspector Rob McColl said police agree with the Dateline investigators conclusion that Buziak was innocent & her murder was a targeted hit arranged by someone close to her.
How can Rob McColl in one breath suggest that Lindsay’s murder was connected to the Calgary Drug Bust and, in another breath, claim her murder was arranged by someone close to her? Just who is this someone close to her that Inspector Rob McColl is referring to?
So, who are we to believe, the Dateline experts, or Inspector Rob McColl and Sgt Chris Horsley, the two lead investigators in Lindsay’s case who are no further ahead in their investigation than they were 19 years ago?
Inspector Rob McColl & Sgt. Chris Horsley must have been very upset that the show did not go their way, because less than a week after the show aired the Saanich Police Department made a public statement clearing the entire Zailo family of any involvement in Lindsay’s murder. Why did they even appear on the show if they weren’t prepared to take the advice of the experts.
The Dateline experts weren’t buying into their drug theory, and my understanding is that even today a Dateline spokesperson recently stated that they stand by their original statements and don’t believe Lindsay’s murder had anything to do with drugs
June 25/2008 Oak Bay News
As detectives sort through evidence, interview witnesses & try to tie up loose ends, they report to the primary investigator, who keeps Inspector Rob McColl posted on his or her progress under the management model. A large team of officers, up to 25 in Buziak’s case are on the ground from the get-go McColl explained. Initial tasks include securing the crime scene, collecting evidence and canvassing the neighborhood. One wrong step, Inspector McColl said, and evidence can be tainted, throwing off the whole investigation.
At the time of Lindsay’s murder Rob McColl took the helm as team commander and appointed a primary investigator and a file coordinator. That lead investigator was Sgt. Chris Horsley. McColl, the head of the Saanich Police detective division said; The three roles act in a “command triangle” at the head of an investigation & work to organize the forensic identification, surveillance, interview teams that carry out the groundwork. “The major case management model relies on everybody from the front-end patrol officers who are first on the scene. The initial response is so important to cover the scene.”
*** Interesting how McColl talks about securing the crime scene and ensuring the evidence isn’t tainted. Has he forgotten that the entire crime scene was contaminated the minute Jason Zailo & his friend stepped into the DeSousa home that night? Their fingerprints, footprints everywhere they went. Jason bending over Lindsay’s body and covering himself in her blood, the contamination was endless. Let’s not forget too, the cops who arrived on the scene, trapsed through the house leaving their footprints everywhere. And this was before the crime scene had been secured. The entire scene was a forensic nightmare.

Saanich Police Inspector Rob McColl, head of the detective division reveals some of what police have done in the last year, including interviewing 1471 people, following up on 752 tips, and executing 30 search warrants. Some detective work was done outside BC, although Sgt. Rob McColl won’t say where. On the Dateline NBC show, Dream House Mystery Inspector Rob McColl’s words were, “there’s more likely a third, fourth, , fifth person involved.”
Sept 21/2010 Times Colonist
The hour-long report on the February 2/2008 murder drew more than six million viewers Friday night. In the report, Inspector Rob McColl and Detective Sgt. Chris Horsley say they “desperately need some help” in the case. In this same article it says that Zailo and a friend had arranged to meet Buziak at the Gordon Head house. Zailo told police he saw two figures moving inside through the smoked glass of the homes’ front door when they drove up at 5:45 p.m. Zailo said he didn’t want to appear to be a “meddling boyfriend” so he drove around the corner and waited.
Sgt. Chris Horsley has spent years trying to discredit Lindsay’s father, to the point of calling him a liar, and trying to turn the media against him.
Highly irresponsible for a police officer/an officer of the court, especially when it cannot be supported by evidence of such. Just because there was information Lindsay only shared with her father doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Lindsay’s father has spent 19 years trying to find justice for his daughter Lindsay, and if he has misspoken at times, who are we to judge him. This man has had to carry a heavy burden never being able to forget the brutality of how his daughter was murdered. I wonder just how many of us could have survived the trauma that this family has had to endure.
LINDSAY BUZIAK’S MURDER HAS REMAINED UNSOLVED FOR NINETEEN YEARS
but we must always keep the faith that the perpetrators will one day be brought to justice. I am confident that the new investigators Sgt. Aaron Murray & Jas Dhaliwal, who were brought onto the case in 2022, are following the evidence that’s been there right from the beginning, and that one day they will be the ones to make the arrests we have all been waiting for.
