The Murder of Lindsay Buziak

Sept 16/2025 Lindsay Buziak Murder – how the Saanich Police fucked up the investigation.

All the evidence in this INVESTIGATION indicates that JASON ZAILO COULD NOT HAVE COMMITTED THE MURDER.

but this does not absolve him of perhaps having first-hand information about who did murder her. Nor does it absolve him or his family of playing a role in the conspiracy to murder her. Once the Saanich Police made a public statement clearing that entire family, the Zailos became so comfortable in their carefully choreographed alibis & lies that it continued on for years, alibis and inconsistencies that were littered with gaping holes of inconsistencies & misinformation. There is no need for all the lies to be spelled out again as they have all been detailed throughout the different pages on this website.

It has been proven time & time again, that there is no justice in a court of law. Sadly, because of this, people are turning to social media to seek some kind of justice, knowing that media coverage can raise the visibility of important issues, facilitate dialogue and serve as a catalyst for change, but that is only if it is used in a responsible manner. Now we are left questioning why the Saanich Police, through the means of the media, chose to put out so much false information in Lindsay’s case, leading to much confusion and mistrust. Here we are 18 years later, with Lindsay’s murder still unsolved and the Saanich Police staying tight-lipped about where things went so wrong.

Why did the police clear Jason Zailo at the end of 2009?

Why did they clear the entire Zailo family late 2010, just one week after the Dateline NBC Dream House Mystery show aired? There may have been enough evidence to clear Jason of the actual killing of his girlfriend, but certainly there was not enough evidence to clear him of being part of the conspiracy to have her murdered. Was it incompetence – negligence – corruption – a cover up? What do the Saanich Police not want us to know? Was the crime scene evidence rendered compromised/unprofessionally collected, leaving the hard evidence inadmissible or worse, contaminated.

Here are words from the Emergency medical service (AMBULANCE) WHO first appeared on the scene of the crime.

“Just a couple police cars and us, parked in front of house and her partner said, “I’ll go in first, if I need you, I’ll radio. What I saw, was, nobody wearing booties, the police were in/out – nobody at the front door marking who was coming in/out of the house”

EMS: Yeah, that was the most uncontrolled police scene I have ever witnessed.

EMS: Continued to watch until her partner returned to the ambulance.

EMS: He was very shaken, just said it was a lot of blood, a very bloody scene.

We have the EMS Service saying they believe the crime scene had been compromised by the Saanich Police

because proper procedures were not met when securing the crime scene. We must not forget too, that the crime scene had already been compromised the minute Jason Zailo & his friend Cohen Oatman entered the home. Jumping the fence, touching the exterior door handles upon entry, leaving their fingerprints and footprints throughout the house as they ran through, and Jason touching Lindsay’s body and getting himself covered in her blood. Yes, the crime scene had definitely been contaminated by all parties. I have to wonder why the 911 operator didn’t tell Jason not to enter the home until the police arrived. Then again, maybe she did, and we would not be privy to that information.

So many questions that need to be answered, and one very important one comes to mind.

Why did the Zailos tell one story on Dateline, then come forward 15 years later and tell the Capital Daily News a completely different story? Shirley Zailo told Dateline that on the Friday night before the murder Lindsay had shared with her that she was afraid of her ex-boyfriend Matt MacDuff, which turned out to be a lie – a deflection/manipulation tactic to protect her own son no doubt. Curious why she never repeated that story to the Capital Daily, and after careful review it is clear that some of her stories told to the Capital Daily were fabrications and can easily be proved as false.

There has never been a shred of evidence to prove that Shirley & Lindsay even went for a walk that Friday evening or out for sushi as Shirley claims. This information was never given to the Saanich Police during the first interviews after the murder, in fact, the first anyone ever heard about this was on the Dateline Show in 2010.

No receipt from the sushi restaurant was ever produced, and there is not one person to back up her story other that she actually was at Lindsay’s condo that night – except for Jason of course. Of course, if Shirley was not at Lindsay’s condo that Friday night, then the evidence that Lindsay gave the 1702 DeSousa address to the woman on the phone that night goes out the window. Because that information was given to the Saanich Police by Shirley Zailo herself.

FACTS that bring all suspicions back to the inside circle of Lindsay’s personal life.

Those who were “closest” to her, those who knew her character, those who knew her habits, those who knew her movements, those who knew precisely how she would react to the setup. Those who were involved or had knowledge would dismiss and minimize her concerns or suspicions that something wasn’t right. The two conditions to generate a crime – motive and opportunity. The “opportunity” is clearly demonstrated by the very convenient time and location. It is by no coincidence that Lindsay was murdered at the Desousa house!

The “motive” remains “very personal” narrowing down the list of suspects. Conclusion is based on the obvious, the glaring, common sense and to those who received benefit from Lindsay’s murder. Was someone scorned? Was there a threat of criminal exposure – a very scary thought for that suspect and very personal. No matter what avenue you view Lindsay’s brutal murder, it is personal. Very personal. It was a message, and likely an act of revenge.

Lindsay’s murder was a setup, choreographed like a theatrical ballet, executed under the noses of the incompetent Saanich Police Department. If SPD continue to insist that they were NOT negligent/incompetent, then we must concur they have played a significant role in either covering up or it’s willful blindness. After 18 years of the Saanich Police Department not being able to solve Lindsay’s murder why isn’t it being turned over to the “Cold Case” unit. The Saanich Police Department, Detective Division and Saanich Police Management should have full knowledge about why this murder happened, how the murder was carried out, and how it was controlled.

There could be multiple scenarios that would involve different degrees of police involvement/culpability:

  • a police informant pointed the finger at an innocent person
  • the police know their informant pointed the finger at an innocent person
  • the police helped their informant implicate an innocent person
  • a police informant arranged for the murder of an innocent person
  • the police know their informant arranged for the murder of an innocent person

If any of them are true, each carries embarrassment/scandal for the police and,

there is the possibility that it would lead one or more of the involved police forces to stall the investigation. Of all of the people involved in the drug trafficking operation, the real informant would be the individual most known to police – pretty risky orchestrating a murder when you are very obviously on the police’s radar already. But: different police forces, and different crimes, with only the barest connection between them; and police may not have really looked at any relationship.

Police incompetence has been alleged from the start. Now, if it turns out that the police’s own informant (albeit the Calgary Police’s/RCMP’s informant rather than the Saanich Police) is responsible, doesn’t that potentially implicate the RCMP/Calgary Police too? There is even the possibility that not only did a police informant arrange for the murder, but that the police might know about it, or, even more, have been an active participant in the interest of protecting a source – not necessarily involved directly in murder, but potentially just knowing that their informant was trying to implicate Buziak or maybe even participating in it.

If the source helped out with Operation High Noon, then police might not want to investigate or arrest the source in Lindsay’s murder, even if they’re involved? If any of these are true, each one carries embarrassment/scandal for the police.  This could have led to one or more of the involved police forces stalling the investigation.

When Shirley Zailo chose to sue Lindsay’s dad, she was poorly advised by her lawyer,

who should have advised her to do no such thing. There was no clear evidence that she could possibly win her case. The case was likely taken on for financial gain, because it’s always “all about the money.” It would have been more prudent of her to have directed her lawsuit against the Saanich Police Department, because their failure to solve this very solvable murder is what depicts her and her family of having some level of involvement or knowledge of the conspiracy to murder Lindsay. If only Shirley had put up her money to help solve Lindsay’s murder, rather than spending the horrendous amount of money she did to sue Jeff, things could have been so different.

The Zailo family being upset by the negative publicity holds no credibility, and most of it has been brought on by their own actions.

All the lies Jason has been caught up in put him under a large umbrella of suspicious. The Capital Daily news article claims Jason said. “The Toshiba laptop”, was shared by him and Lindsay. Who in business shares a laptop? Seriously. This entire mess all began on the Dateline show when Jason told the host that everything was fine with him and Lindsay. “No problems” he said. Then his mother steps in and points the finger at Lindsay’s ex-boyfriend. A bold & daring lie!

On the Dateline show Jason says he see figures through smoked glass in the door? Then a few years later, it changes to “he saw the couple standing outside”. Who deleted the Facebook messages? So many lies have caused the confusion, and all this could have been cleared up years ago. If Jason had only reached out to Lindsay’s dad to explain all the discrepancies in his statements, things could have been so different. The Zailos cowardly behavior and refusal to help has put them in this position….and now they think they can cry about what’s happened to them and sue Lindsay’s father. Fortunately for Lindsay’s dad they did not succeed in their endeavor to crush him in the courts.

It would appear the Saanich Police Department have a greater stake at dismissing the case, covering up or hiding the truth. Either that, or they are truly incompetent.

Clearing anyone before the crime is solved only demonstrates incompetence, and the fact that Lindsay’s murder remains unsolved after 18 years proves this beyond a doubt.
