WORDS FROM KYLE’S MOM TODAY.

As Kyle’s mom, I am pleading for anyone to come forward with information about Kyle. Thank you”.

For Kyle’s family & friends, it has been a long painful 18-year journey waiting for answers that never seem to come.

What happened to Kyle MacDonald on that fateful day of August 30th, 2007? Dropped off by his girlfriend Arynn Chelkowski in the Victoria Inner Harbour to board a charter flight to Vancouver – then never to be seen again. Who was Kyle supposed to meet in Vancouver? Was anyone at the terminal to pick him up? Who was Kyle close to? Who would he have shared what was going on in his life with? Why did Kyle’s girlfriend wait 5 weeks to go to the police? Why did she not question why she had not heard from Kyle sooner? Why did she not reach out to Kyle’s mother? Kyle’s mom Anita was in Nova Scotia at the time visiting family, and she had no idea that Kyle had gone missing.

This young man disappeared without a trace, and going over everything we have heard about the events of that day, it is clear that Kyle most likely met with foul play, under very suspicious circumstances. You can be damn sure that there are people out there that know exactly what happened to this young man, and for whatever reason have been too afraid to come forward. Kyle was a good kid but had gotten involved with some very unsavory characters, and he was known to be involved in marijuana grow-ops. Like so many other young men Kyle’s age, he was probably lured by someone who promised him big money.

Did Kyle take something that didn’t belong to him – did he step on someone’s toes?

It sounds like someone wanted Kyle taken out, and if that is the case, just who would that person be? The police likely know the unsavory people Kyle was involved with, and perhaps they even know what happened to him. However, with no body ever recovered, there is no evidence that Kyle is really dead, and that is where the problem lies. The cops may have a lot of circumstantial evidence, but it is not enough to make an arrest or charge someone. Unfortunately, it is all too often that young men go missing under suspicious circumstances and are never to be found. Unless someone talks and gives the cops information that can lead them to Kyle’s body, this case may never be solved.

Some people believe that Lindsay Buziak’s murder may have had some connection to Kyle’s disappearance.

Lindsay & her boyfriend Jason Zailo were living up in Shawnigan Lake during the summer of 2007, and Shawnigan is where Kyle MacDonald lived at the time of his disappearance. It was around the end of August 2007, that Lindsay ran from the Zailo waterfront property where they she was living, saying she couldn’t live there anymore. Jason Zailo was friends with a drug trafficker named Zachary (Ziggy) Matheson, and there was rumor that Ziggy was one of the last people to see Kyle alive. This may all be speculation, but putting this all out there is better than sitting back and doing nothing. Ziggy was involved in drug trafficking and very involved with grow-ops up in Shawnigan.

Perhaps there is no connection whatsoever, but just what if there is. Kyle disappeared on August 30th, 2007, from the Inner Harbor, likely lured there by whoever set him up to take that trip. Lindsay’s murder was being planned in the late months of 2007, and she was murdered February 2/2008. Lindsay had been set up – lured to a vacant home in Saanich, then stabbed to death in the master bedroom. Lindsay told her father she saw something she shouldn’t have seen.

Kyle’s girlfriend Arynn Chelkowski has to know more than she is saying, as her & Kyle had been a couple for a few years. To wait 5 weeks before going to the police is highly suspicious. Arynn had to know about Kyle’s involvement with marijuana grow-ops, and she most likely knew who Kyle reported to. At the time of Kyle’s disappearance, she may have feared for her own life and therefore did not come forward with what she knew. But today, 18 years later, it’s a different story. She needs to contact Kyle’s mom Anita and tell her what she knows, and of course she needs to have a sit down with the Shawnigan Lake RCMP and do the same thing.

There can be no healing for Kyle’s family & friends until the truth finally comes out about who Kyle was involved with. It’s highly likely that Arynn Chelkowski holds the key that can unlock the answers to a lot of questions. She still lives & works locally and isn’t hard to find. She has always been on Facebook, but two days ago she privatized her page and now searching her name she cannot be found. No doubt she has found this new page about Kyle MacDonald’s disappearance and has chosen to go undercover, rather than deal with the issue at hand.

Over the years there have been lots of news articles that covered the story of Kyle’s disappearance, yet never any new information came to light. Just recently a new Facebook page which highlights Kyle’s disappeared has inspired new hope that someone out there might have the answers. Police have asked for, and received, a piece of the umbilical cord from a Shawnigan Lake man who has been missing for a year.

Kyle Michael MacDonald 24 was last seen August 30, 2007, in Victoria, as he boarded a Harbour Air plane destined for the mainland. “He was going to Vancouver to see a buddy, then planned on going fishing for two or three days”, said his mom, Anita Jamieson. Mac Donald was reported missing by his dad & girlfriend about 35 days after he left his Shawnigan Lake home. They told police it wasn’t unusual for him to go off by himself, sometimes for a month at a time.

His mom said that’s a lie but has now given up hope her son will ever be found alive. “I believe he was murdered because he owed a lot of money to unsavory people”, said Jamieson, who added she believes her son was involved in the seedy world of illegal drugs. “The best I can hope for at this point is just to find his body so I can have a funeral for him”.

On Monday, police investigating the case took the small piece of umbilical cord and sent it to an RCMP lab, in an attempt to get a DNA sample. Jamieson said she kept the pieces a a keepsake. “I never thought it would be used for something like this”, she said. But that doesn’t mean police see MacDonald’s disappearance as anything other than a missing person’s file.

“We’ve asked for the tissue in case we can compare it to some of these missing unidentifiable people who are turning up, just off the change that something has happened to him”, said Shawnigan Lake RCMP Col. Tim Desaulniers. At this time, there’s nothing to suggest there’s anything suspicious”, he said. “There are some rumors going around, but right now we’re still investigating it as a missing person’s file.

But Jamieson is convinced her son was killed over bad choices. he made to support a lavish lifestyle. “Kyle owed more than $3,000 a month for a mortgage & things like that – where does he get that money when he doesn’t have a job”? Jamieson said her son purchased a $460,000 home in Shawnigan Laked & owned a $60,000 truck among other things. “Where does a kid get the money for all that?

MacDonald has not used bank or credit cards since he disappeared. Police say they will keep the investigation open & MacDonald’s genetic material on hand. “A DNA sample is one of those things that doesn’t deteriorate, so 50 years from now, it will still probably be able to be compared,” said Desaulniers. Anyone with information about MacDonald’s whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding his disappearance is urged to contact Shawnigan Lake RCMP or call Crime Stoppers.

Three years after 24-year-old Kyle MacDonald was seen boarding a harbour plane in downtown Victoria, his disappearance continues to baffle police. The Shawnigan Lake fishing and hunting guide said goodbye to his girlfriend and embarked on the Harbour Air flight to Vancouver at 11:20 a.m. on Aug. 30, 2007.

MacDonald got off the plane in Vancouver but failed to meet the friends he was to join for a weekend fishing trip, Island district RCMP spokesman Cpl. Darren Lagan said. As far as police know, he hasn’t been seen since. Investigators have no leads to explain what happened and foul play is not being ruled out.

There’s been no use of his cellphone, credit cards or bank account, Lagan said. His family has said MacDonald did not have a history of mental illness and was not known to be out of contact for long periods of time. Police want to solve the case to give MacDonald’s family some closure, Lagan said.”Kyle vanished, leaving his family with many unanswered questions, and the pain of living life without him,” said Lagan. At the time of his disappearance, MacDonald was wearing a T-shirt and sandals. He was carrying a Calvin Klein duffle bag, a tackle box and a small fishing rod.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. Joe Houben with the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit at 250-380-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)
