Memorial Walk for Justice
17 YEARS UNSOLVED
February 2/2025
Regardless of the weather conditions, the 2025 Memorial Walk for Justice went ahead as planned. Many of the people who came out to walk were supporters who have attended the event since the first walk that took place in 2011. It was wonderful to see retired Detective Sgt. Chris Horsley & the current lead detective on Lindsay’s case Cst. Aaron Murray mingling/chatting with the folks at Saanich City Hall. These two officers especially, have put their heart and soul into solving this murder and I believe they are getting so close to the goal line that they can smell the victory. Without a doubt, the police know who all the players are, and they are just waiting for that final piece of evidence before making arrests.
Police recovered little forensic evidence from the crime scene at 1702 DeSousa place that fateful night February 2nd, 2008.
According to court documents, a forensic pathologist told police only “one weapon” was responsible for Lindsay’s injuries, and according to Saanich Police it is unknown whether the suspects wore gloves when they greeted Lindsay at the end of the driveway. We know there were two people who came forward as witnesses. One man driving by on his way home from work, was able to describe the male suspect but only caught a glimpse of the woman. The second witness, a woman out walking her dog was able to describe the dress the woman was wearing. It’s interesting that neither of the witnesses were able to tell if the couple were wearing gloves, which means they must have been quite a distance away. Right after the murder, with so little evidence to go on, the Saanich Police were left to rely on the information they received from people who were close to Lindsay.
why is it that the Saanich Police headed directly to Calgary after Lindsay’s murder?
There is only one explanation for why the cops began their investigation in Calgary and stayed on it for over a year. Jason Zailo pointed them in that direction. He tells the cops that Lindsay went to visit her dad in Calgary mid-December 2007. Then he lets the cops know that Lindsay’s close friend Rianne who worked as a receptionist in the Re/Max office, just happened to be friends with Vid Acevedo, a guy who had connections to the Delalcazar crime family. From that point on the Saanich Police believed that Lindsay’s murder was connected to the Calgary Drug Bust.
At that time, the Saanich Police failed to investigate Jason Zailo and the people with whom he associated with. Had they done so they would have discovered that Jason was connected to some very unsavory characters, and he himself had connections to the Hells Angels in Vancouver just like his friends Ziggy Matheson and Chris Schwartz. Over the years, the Saanich Police ignored the multitude of lies Jason fed them, at every chance portraying himself as a model citizen. If the cops had paid attention to what was right in front of them, their investigation could have taken an entirely different direction.
Seasoned homicide investigators know that the first rule of order is – everyone and all remain suspects until the t’s are crossed, and the i’s are dotted. It is highly unusual for a police department to clear a suspect before they have iron-clad proof of that person’s innocence, and clearly in this case there was sufficient circumstantial evidence to suggest that Jason Zailo may have played a part in the planning of his girlfriend’s murder. Not only did the Saanich Police clear Mr. Zailo in late 2009, but they also cleared his entire family just a few days after the Dateline show aired in Sept/2010. Why would the police clear Jason Zailo when his stories were so full of holes?
In the few years leading up to Lindsay’s murder Ziggy Matheson was doing everything possible to build up/expand his drug operation.
He had been close friends with the Zailo brothers since his arrival from Toronto in the late 90’s and was even closer to the Zailo family at the time Lindsay was murdered. The boy’s mother Shirley Zailo was also friends with Ziggy’s mother Deborah Matheson. Everyone in town knew that Matheson was a very dangerous individual, and one to be reckoned with. However, the Zailos chose to ignore his criminal record of drug trafficking and murder, and welcomed him into their home with open arms, often taking him on holidays with them.
who really owned the property at 2762 & 2768 Claude Road in langford – WAS IT SHIRLEY ZAILO OR ZIGGY MATHESON?
For years we’ve heard that Shirley Zailo owned the two properties on Claude Road, and that Ziggy Matheson was her tenant. However, there are many who believe that even though Shirley’s name is on the title Ziggy was the actual owner of both properties. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Except for the odd short-term cash job, Matheson had no employment history and no T4’s. What a perfect way to launder his dirty drug money, give it to Shirley, she puts part of Ziggy’s dirty drug money directly onto the mortgage, then invests the rest of his money in some offshore account. Even if Shirley was the legal owner of the property, she still could have been investing Ziggy’s money for him.
Why not? She put her son Ryan’s name on the title to the #218 68 Songhees condo when it was purchased in February 2007. She was the actual owner and had made that clear to everyone. Hide the money wherever you can, avoid the taxes, move your money from one house to the other. Heck, the paperwork/evidence of money laundering, flipping, straw buyers, inflating the purchase price, it’s all there for the taking.
But has anyone ever investigated all this white-collar crime. Laundering money is done through the purchase of real estate – or taking the cash out of the country and hiding it in offshore accounts in countries such as Panama, Cayman Islands, Bermuda etc. These countries are tax havens for the wealthy & drug traffickers/criminals wanting to hide their dirty money.
In 2013, Ziggy Matheson was busted in a raid just outside his stash house condo at #306 2778 Peatt Road. Interesting too that his mother Deborah Matheson lived in the same complex at #209 2778 Peatt Road. The stash house was located just a block away from where Ziggy lived at 2768 Claude Road. Hard to imagine that his mother wasn’t part of it all.
Remember, what Lindsay saw that she shouldn’t have seen may not have been just one thing. It could be that she learned about their entire operation, and if the family knew for sure that she was leaving Jason that made her expendable. The criminal mastermind knew they could control her if she married into it but could not control her if she split from it.
In a statement made to the press right after the 2013 arrest of Ziggy Matheson prominent realtor Shirley Zailo had this to say.”. “My family has no ties or connection to the man that lives in that home, and I was not aware that there was any drug activity going on at that property.” Matheson had been in and out of jail 7 times prior to his arrest.
Lindsey Houghton, media relations officer for the CFSEU recalled another disturbing incident from 2013, when the CFSEU located a drug house in Langford. Two men, Zach Matheson and Ali Arash Ziaee, were arrested: both were high-profile drug dealers with connections to powerful criminal groups.

In 2019, the Office of Investigative Standards and Practices recommended that police use new technology TO RETEST EVIDENCE FROM THE CRIME SCENE
WHO IS THE INFORMANT WHO RATTED OUT THE DELALCAZAR’S SHIPMENT TO CALGARY IN NOVEMBER 2007?
On March 16/2019, retired RCMP officer Garry Rodgers/blog writer and his friend Jake, another retired cop met for coffee with Sherry G. Garry knew that Sherry was the RCMP officer who had done a risk assessment on the Calgary Drug Bust informant in 2019, and he was eager to find out just who the informant was. Sherry told Garry Rogers & his friend that the informant was a woman who worked in Jason’s office at the time of Lindsay’s murder and still worked with Jason today. That was mind-blowing information.
Garry meets up with Shirley to tell her that the informant who ratted out the Delalcazar drug shipment works in her office. Shirley looks surprised, keeps her cool, then accuses one of Lindsay’s realtor friends who worked there in 2008. Talk about a major deflection. Garry contacts me to tell me about his visit with Shirley, needless to say I was shocked because for all Garry knew he could have been talking to the informant herself.
Talk about a betrayal to Sherry G, one of his own Blue Line. The following spring Garry asked me if I would please meet with Shirley and listen to her side of the story. I said, “I wouldn’t believe a word that came out of that woman’s mouth”, and I never spoke to him again. Garry had made friends with the Zailo family the previous year and was now doing everything he could to help them, and from what I hear he still is. He may have been a cop, but by his actions he has proved himself to be a really stupid one.
WHY WOULD SHERRY G SHARE SUCH CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION WITH GARRY RODGERS, SOMEONE WHOM SHE HAD NEVER MET BEFORE?
It’s a cop’s job to protect an informant at all costs, not to give them up. Was she upset with the RCMP, had she left under suspicious circumstances, or was she misleading Garry & his friend as a deflection? But if the informant really wasn’t in Jason’s office, why would she lead Garry Rodgers in that direction? Although highly unlikely, it is possible that Sherry G was protecting the informant who had nothing to do with real estate and directing Garry Rodgers to the conspirators? During the time this was all happening Sherry was working for the government in their criminal investigations department, so she had a lot to lose by trusting Garry Rodgers whom she had never met before. The woman never lost her job, but she was seriously reprimanded for doing what she did. In my opinion, her actions should have been grounds for immediate dismissal.
WHAT SHOULD WE BELIEVE? WAS THE INFORMANT REALLY IN JASON’S OFFICE AS SHERRY, THE RCMP HANDLER SAID?
or was the informant someone on the outside who had nothing to do with real estate and perhaps wasn’t even connected to the Zailos. If this was the case, it would mean that the players in the Calgary Drug bust had nothing to do with Lindsay’s murder, and that he Delalcazars were set up to take the fall by the conspirators who wanted Lindsay dead and took the opportunity to make that happen when the first bust was made in Calgary on January 22/2008. The woman mastermind who wanted Lindsay dead, had 10 days to formulate her plan, put it into action, and with the help of her 3 Smurfs it was a successful operation.
First, the brand-new empty home on DeSousa, then the lure to get Lindsay Buziak into the home and up those stairs where she could be slaughtered. This murder was planned by someone who knew the inside workings of real estate, the referral system, loc boxes, the owner’s schedule, and every other intricate detail it took to ensure this murder would go off without a hitch. Whoever she brought in to kill Lindsay was not connected to the Mexicans like she would have us all believe. Who had the connections to bring in hired killers? I’d be looking at her friend the drug dealer/killer who lives over on Rainville Road. Who was he connected to? The Hells Angels!
REMEMBER WHAT THE DATELINE EXPERTS SAID, someone very close to Lindsay, someone in the same business, maybe even in the same office.
REMEMBER WHAT INSPECTOR ROB MCCOLL SAID ON DATELINE. It’s very possible that the mastermind and the financier is one and the same.
IMPORTANT FACTS TO REMEMBER
**Right after the murder, Ziggy Matheson was trying to set up a meeting of his peers. He needed to protect the Zailos from Vid Acevedo who was angrier than hell once he realized that him & his friends, the Delalcazars, had been set up to take the fall for Lindsay’s murder.
**Shirley claims that Lindsay called and asked her to go out for dinner on the Friday night before the murder. When she arrived at Lindsay’s condo, she just happened to overhear Lindsay giving the DeSousa address to the Mexican woman. Shirley tells police that her and Lindsay went for a walk, then for sushi, and it was then that Lindsay told her she was afraid of her ex-boyfriend Matt.
Interesting timing too, as Lindsay had just been talking to her dad on the phone at 6:37 pm and never once did Lindsay say a word about going for dinner with Shirley or taking for a walk. Shirley tells the police that she arrived at Lindsay’s condo about 7:15 pm. I have to wonder if the autopsy/stomach contents showed that Lindsay had eaten sushi that night and did the Saanich Police ever ask to see a receipt for the sushi restaurant?
On the Dateline show in 2010, Jason tells host Josh that he saw two shadows through the frosted glass in the front door. A few years later he changes his story:
Jason Zailo tells police he drives up to the house just four minutes later at 5:45, and then he tells them that he may have actually seen the murderers: a tall Caucasian man, and a blonde woman wearing a colorful dress. “The killers were actually about to walk out the front door and leave, and he turned into the cul-de-sac and interrupted them leaving,” said Sgt. Horsley. “If he had been five seconds later, he would have driven right into the suspects walking out here into the driveway.” Instead, he tells police the couple turned around and closed the door. “And his assumption is these are the clients, and the showing is just starting as the door closes,” said Horsley. “He then parks outside because he is waiting for the showing to end.”
**On the Dateline show, Josh asked Shirley “what did Lindsay tell you?” Shirley responded, “I can’t really remember, but she said she didn’t like the way Matt had treated her during their relationship”.
**According to the police several messages on Lindsay’s laptop had been deleted. There was only 1 maybe 2 people who had access to her laptop that could have removed those messages.
In 2021, the Capital Daily journalist Zander Sherman contacted Dateline NBC. NBC’s words, “We stand by our story and our reporting process. We look forward to Lindsay’s killers being brought to justice.”
Remember what Shirley Zailo said to Jeff while standing in her Shawnigan Lake home that summer of 2007. When lashing out at him she said, “DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM.” Google that phrase folks, it’s a statement made by a narcissist, and there are lots of books written about this kind of behavior. They believe they are a superior being & can turn the charm on then off just as quickly.
There are 2 groups of suspects. The Delalcazar crew/Calgary Drug Bust & the Zailo Family. Ask yourself, where does all the evidence lead?
The Delalcazar brothers are small time drug dealers, guys who beat up people, assault women and bully people around. They have made a lot of enemies over the years, even within their own circle. Not to mention the girlfriends they abused physically & emotionally. Do you not think that after 17 years someone would have gone to the police if they had evidence to prove that the Delalcazars were involved in Lindsay’s murder? Could it be that no one has talked because the Delalcazars had nothing to do with Lindsay’s murder?
Then we have the Zailo family. A mother, her two Smurfs, and one adopted Smurf. A very tight knit family group that had motive, means and opportunity and a whole lot of reason to have kept this murder in-house. A code of silence that must be upheld until the very end. Let’s not forget that the adopted Smurf, a known drug trafficker had been living in Shirley Zailo’s rental property at 2768 Claude Road in Langford since 2006 and was still living there when he was busted for trafficking in June 2013.
In 2021, during a rare interview with Capital Daily,
Lindsay’s mother Evelyn Reitmayer told journalist Zander Sherman that she believes the Zailo’s are innocent. Wouldn’t we all like to know what she knows that we don’t know? She went on to say that she considers her ex-husband Jeff to be a liar and that she was disgusted with all the media frenzy and would like it to stop. She even messaged me a few years ago, told me I was a disgusting person with a mental health problem and that I should see a doctor, and to leave her friends the Zailos alone. I am still here, and I am not going away.
Let’s never lose sight that Jeff is a grieving father who has spent the last 17 years trying to find justice for his daughter Lindsay. And, as the years passed with no arrests his anger/frustration did get the best of him. Especially because he felt so strongly that he knew exactly who the conspirators were. Imagine what it’s like to know who murdered your child and not be able to do anything about it. Even after a major heart operation the guy is back, like some freaking Every Ready battery that never dies, and it looks like he is not going away anytime soon. He knows who conspired to have his daughter murdered and he’s hell bent on proving it.
SO WATCH OUT SMURFS – HE IS COMING FOR YOU!
