Saanich Police surround the area where the Zailos stand

APRIL 3 2008, A month after the killing lindsay’s family considered putting up a reward but the police said they had sufficient information and there was no need to do so.

The police also told the family public tips were not needed. However, on February 24/2010, the family went ahead and offered up a $100,00 reward with a 6-month expiry date. Unfortunately, that reward did not bring forward new information that could help solve the case. By telling the family not to offer a reward, the police clearly believed they were on the right track and needed no outside help. Turns out they were wrong. Well, just where did all that information they claimed to have come from? We know for a fact that the source for most of the information the police had came from Jason Zailo himself.

Just my opinion, but I’d say the Saanich Police are still chasing the Mexican Drug cartel theory, just like they were all those years ago. Well, the Dateline NBC show wasn’t falling for that drug angle theory, and neither are most of us, not the ones who use critical thinking skills, that’s for sure. Useless theory, useless cops, a lack of transparency and a department full of liars, putting out false information every opportunity they get.

February 3/2009, spokesperson Sgt. John Price announced that the Saanich Police had cleared Lindsay’s boyfriend Jason Zailo as a suspect.

During that same announcement February 3/2009, the Saanich Police publicized descriptions and composite sketches of the couple who arrived at the home to greet Lindsay. Price admitted to the press that the police had held back the sketches for nearly a year, and when he was asked why, he said, “the police wanted to take advantage of the resurgence of interest in the case”. Criminologist Robert Gordon from Simon Fraser University stated, “if the police have been sitting on this image for nearly a year there is some doubt that has to be cast over the value of the image.” This comment does not come as any surprise as the image drawn was crude, amateurish and laughable to many.

The chap who created this video has done an amazing in-depth analysis of Jason’s behavior at the house, picking up on every intricate detail of what took place the night of Lindsay’s murder.

I question whether this woman in the swirl pattern red & white dress even exists.

In one report the police claim they have multiple witnesses, another report claimed they had two independent witnesses. As their stories are always conflicting it’s hard to know what to believe. Just where is this woman who was supposedly out walking her dog and was able to describe the woman in the dress. I find it very odd that after nearly 18 years she has never reached out to Lindsay’s family to tell them what she witnessed.

Is she dead? I would think that any decent human being with an ounce of compassion would have realized after all this time that the cops are totally useless and her information would be better off in the hands of Lindsay’s family. The other witness, a gentleman driving home on his way from work approached Lindsay’s family a few years ago, telling them exactly what he saw. He says he saw the man in the long coat, but he did not get a good look at the woman so could not describe her. Now that’s an honest decent human being!

Is it possible that Jason Zailo was the only witness to give that description of the dress to the cops? Jason described the male as wearing a classy two-tone brown jacket that hung just below the waist. That description was not in alignment with the independent witness who claims the man he saw greeting Lindsay in the driveway was wearing a long dark coat. There are just so many lies floating around this city and the Saanich Police are responsible for most of them.

OCTOBER 2010 – SAANICH POLICE DETECTIVES ROB MCCOLL & SGT. CHRIS HORSLEY APPEARED ON THE DATELINE NBC DREAM HOUSE MYSTERY SHOW

The experts who appeared on the Dateline NBC Show were Yolanda McClary, retired crime scene investigator Las Vegas — Dwayne Stanton retired homicide detective Washington DC — Alan Jackson, former prosector Las Angeles. All the experts agreed, Lindsay Buziak’s murder had nothing to do with drugs. All agreed that Lindsay was targeted in a scheme well thought out and artfully designed. They believe Lindsay’s murder was very personal, someone very close to her, and perhaps someone in the same business.

Clearly the Saanich Police Department did not value the opinion of the Dateline experts, because just two days after the Dateline show aired, they called a press conference announcing that “no member of the Zailo family is considered a person of interest or a suspect in this investigation.” When Capital Daily News asked Dateline if it was aware of the police’s announcement, among other questions, a Dateline spokesperson said only, “We stand by our story and our reporting process and we look forward to Lindsay’s killers being brought to justice.”

The statement made by the Saanich Police was basically telling the public that they did not believe Dateline’s theory, and they preferred to continue their investigation into the Calgary Drug Bust theory. This public announcement shocked the entire Saanich community and left them wondering just what the hell the cops were up to. Their ongoing focus on the Mexican drug cartel narrative, despite the inconsistent evidence supporting it, suggests that the police are clinging to a discredited theory without valid justification. This sounds nothing like a normal investigative practice, but more of a totally bias tunnel vision investigation.

FEBRUARY 2/2011 THE 1ST MEMORIAL WALK FOR JUSTICE FOR LINDSAY BUZIAK

This 1st memorial walk brought out about 100 people. Many were Lindsay’s friends & acquaintances; others were members of the community just wanting to show their respect for this fallen angel. There was a great police presence on the walk including the head of the detective division Inspector Rob McColl and Chief Michael Chadwick. The Chief took the time to speak to the people at the end of the walk, and it was clear this man really cared. What was most confusing was witnessing the cops who were there for no other reason than to protect the Zailo family. Sgt. Julie Fast & 2 other unidentified officers walking right behind Shirley Zailo.

Then at the end of the walk you will see Sgt. Julie Fast leaning up against the wall at Saanich City Hall talking to a man she obviously knows. Look at the photo taken at City Hall where a group of officers have surrounded the Zailo’s. Lindsay’s family & friends were not offered any protection for that 2011 walk so why in hell would the Zailo’s be offered protection? Sgt Julie Fast was the 3rd cop to arrive at the crime scene on DeSousa Place, also the cop that was sent to Lindsay’s mother’s house that night to give her the devastating news about her daughter. Now we have Julie on the 2011 walk acting as security for Shirley Zailo.

WHEN WAS IT DETERMINED THAT THE ZAILO FAMILY WAS IN ANY DANGER?

Jason Zailo did not appear to be in any danger after Lindsay’s murder, and he did not appear to fear anyone. In fact, the morning he was released from the police station on February 3rd, he was out clothes shopping at Mayfair Mall. He needed to purchase new clothes as his condo had been locked down by the police for 48 hours. That evening at 10:00 pm he went to visit his friend a drug dealer who lived in the same 68 Songhees condo building where he & Lindsay were living. Within two weeks of Lindsay’s death, Jason was seen in different clubs around Victoria hitting on different women. Lindsay’s friends were in shock & disbelieve at Jason’s behavior and the disrespect he was showing towards Lindsay. Not one word on his Facebook about the loss of his girlfriend, just nothing.

Did the cops believe that the Zailo’s had been set up, and Lindsay’s murder was a message to them? If they did believe that, then they are even stupider than stupid. There is no evidence whatsoever to support that the Zailos were the target. Lindsay was the target and Jason damn well knows why Lindsay was murdered and who ordered the hit on her. Why are the police still today continuing to protect the Zailos at every turn?

Shirley Zailo had a tight relationship with a few cops in the Saanich Police Department, including Julie Fast.

Let’s not forget Sgt Tyra Reid, the officer who went with her friend Sgt. Chris Horsley to pick up Lindsay’s sister when she flew in from the Cayman Islands, the Sunday after Lindsay was murdered. Tyra has lunch with Shirley and often compliments her on her Facebook telling her how beautiful she is. As recently as three weeks she liked something on Shirley’s Facebook page. Sgt. Chris Horsley, Jason Zailo’s good buddy never failed to protect Jason when speaking with the media. Many statements made by Horsley to the press in Jason’s defense were proven to be false.

Then we have Sgt Barry MacLachlan, one of the seven officers who retired from Saanich in late January 2008. Barry & Shirley hooked up in 2013 and were in a relationship for two years. Is this proper protocol for officers who all had some involvement in Lindsay’s investigation? Regardless of the fact that this family was cleared, the behavior by these Saanich officers is shameful and an insult to Lindsay family and friends. The actions by these individual officers plainly expose a lack of transparency, poor judgment, and an inadequate investigation significantly eroding public trust.

2018 statement made by Sgt Chris Horsley

“If we had the grounds to go forward to seek charge approval from Crown counsel, we certainly would have done so at this time.” Horsely said the investigation into Lindsay Buziak’s death is ongoing.

However, here in BC the Crown have told the cops they don’t need to understand the law, as that is not their job. The only thing required of them is to go out and get whatever evidence they can, then give it to Crown, and Crown decides if they want to do anything with it or send it all back to the cops to get more information.

Sgt. Horsley’s 2018 statement makes it sound like the Saanich Police have never had enough evidence to even approach Crown. Clearly this is a police department that shouldn’t have been handling Lindsay Buziak’s murder investigation.

Until there are arrests everyone should be considered a suspect!

The investigation into Lindsay’s murder is now into its 18th year, and there are questions today as to whether or not the case is still active. In 2010, the Saanich PD claimed they had worked with the FBI, RCMP, and other law enforcement agencies, applied for and received more than 35 warrants and production orders for 10 companies including Facebook, Bell Mobility, and BC Ferries, and have also conducted more than 400 interviews and have around 2,000 “entities” including people of interest and witnesses.  Yet here we are today and Lindsay’s murder remains unsolved. For many of us it is clear that the Saanich Police do not want this murder solved and have done their best to bury it. WHY?
